Sierra FX's Upcoming Babylon 5 Game to Soar with Intel's Pentium III® Processor
Fall Shipdate Planned for Highly Anticipated Computer Game
Feb.18.99
Offering gamers a new space combat experience, the highly anticipated Babylon 5: Space Combat Simulator will utilize the performance capabilities of Intel's Pentium® III, Sierra FX officials have announced. The announcement was made today at Intel's Pentium III® Processor Preview Day held at the San Jose Convention Center.
David Gehringer, B5 product marketing manager said, "The power and features of the new Intel Pentium® III will allow the Babylon 5: Space Combat Simulator to utilize the game engine to its full potential, creating graphic quality and smoothness so real it will be eerie. It will allow our developers to achieve unprecedented features - such as having 1000 ships, and 100 unique missions in over 200 locations, while throwing over 400,000 polygons to the screen every second in resolutions up to 1600 x 1200."
Said Tom Galvin, Director of Entertainment/Education Market Development at Intel Corporation, "We're truly excited by games like the Babylon 5: Space Combat Simulator that demonstrate how the power of the Pentium III processor improves a compelling game by bringing real-time highly realistic 3D environments to the user."
The game, to be released in September of this year, is based on the highly popular Babylon 5 TV series created by science-fiction "guru" J. Michael Straczynski. Real-time 3D, first-person space combat combine in the game with a dynamic AI system, and a robust strategy component, as well. All will take place in a richly detailed simulation of the Babylon 5 universe, with its fascinating world featuring scores of alien races and hundreds of ships. Consequently, gamers will be able to enjoy virtually unlimited replayability, mentally challenging ethical conflicts and large doses of adrenaline-pumping action.
Players will be able to experience the game as both a story-driven single player game as well as go head to head in ruthless — or cooperative — multiplayer games.
The game uses actual digital models and effects from Babylon 5's own special effects group Netter Digital, thus faithfully recreating the look and feel of the B5 universe, both in graphic detail and accurate flight technology. Working directly with Straczynski, the game is designed to satisfy both hard-core space combat gamers and Babylon 5 fans, as well as those interested in real-time gaming strategy.

NOTE: According to designer Marc Hudgins, "The B5 SCS supports the new Pentium III, and you will see a performance improvement, but there aren't specific game features exclusive to the processor." Current processors from Intel, AMD, and Cyrix will also run the game.
