BABYLON 5
THE LAST BEST HOPE FOR INTERGALACTIC PEACE...
SYNOPSIS
It is the dawn of the third age of mankind, the middle of the 23rd Century. Man is far from alone in the Universe.
A hundred years ago, man made contact with its first alien civilisation, the Centuari - or more to the point, they made contact with man. Before their arrival, man was confined to one solar system, forced to use primitive machinery to explore the Universe.
The Centauri offered mankind an insight into their world, their intelligence and their advanced technologies in exchange for trinkets and novelties to sell back home. In the years that followed, Earth became a young yet powerful galactic force, providing aid to less advanced races under threat from ruthless invading armies.
The Earth's authority was threatened as man made contact with a mysterious race known as the Minbari. The Earth/Minbari War began through a misunderstanding between the two opposing commanders, marking the death of the Minbari supreme leader. A holy war was declared on mankind by the Minbari, the alien armies proving far mightier than Earth's resisting forces. Without explanation, just as Earth was on the brink of defeat, the Minbari surrendered.
The Babylon project was conceived in the aftermath of the war, modelled on the United Nations as a neutral meeting ground where the inter-galactic inhabitants could meet and discuss their differences peacefully. After 4 unsuccessful attempts to launch the project due to sabotage, Babylon 5 became operational in the year 2257 striving for a peaceful galaxy.
