Star Trek Blown Out of The Galaxy by TV Guide Entertainment Network Fans; Babylon 5 Voted Best Science Fiction Television Series in 'Sci-Fi July' Poll
NEW YORK, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- It's official -- the classic series Star Trek was blown out of the galaxy in TV Guide Entertainment Network's (TVGEN) (www.tvguide.com) ``Sci-Fi July'' poll. Throughout the month of July, fans were asked to vote for their all-time favorite science fiction television program. In a shocking upset, Babylon 5 won the poll with a whopping 7,698 votes, out of nearly 27,000 total votes cast, narrowly beating out second-place finisher Dr. Who.
The British cult series finished with 7,550 votes, kicking the pants off such current ratings powerhouses as Hercules: The Legendary Adventures -- which got a measly 140 votes -- and Xena: Warrior Princess, which pulled in 255. The short-lived Space: Above and Beyond -- which was created by X-Files and Millennium writers James Wong and Glen Morgan -- also delivered a surprisingly strong finish, pulling down a very respectable 3,137 votes. So how many votes did the series that spawned the most successful TV franchise in history get? An astoundingly low -- or as Spock might say, highly improbable -- 479, which was good enough for 10th place. TVGEN's sci-fi movie poll, however, did not defy expectations. Star Wars blasted away all comers.
