"Babylon 5" Leadership to Receive Major Pro-Space Award at October 19th Hollywood Event. Straczynski & Company called "Visionaries" for their Depiction of Space Settlements.
Hollywood, CA (October 12, 1996) -- J. Michael Straczynski, creator of the popular television series "Babylon 5," will receive the "Visions of the Future" award on the evening of October 19th from the Space Frontier Foundation as part of Space Frontier Conference V, a major pro-space event held in Hollywood, California October 18-20. Straczynski, Doug Netter, Executive Producer of B5, John Copeland, Producer, and several other members of the B5 leadership will receive the award during a banquet scheduled to take place in the ballroom that served as the site of the original Academy Awards event.
The Space Frontier Foundation, a national grassroots policy and media organization, has chosen to honor Straczynski and his crew for the episode "The Fall of Night", as a pioneering depiction of the physical environment within a rotating space colony, the space station Babylon 5. The Awards Banquet is part of Space Frontier Conference V, a major prospace event hosted by the Foundation that features astronauts Pete Conrad (Apollo 12) and T.K. ("Ken") Mattingly (Apollo 13/16).
A limited number of tickets for the Awards Banquet will be available during Space Frontier Conference V, which begins at 5pm on Friday, October 18, and which will be held at the Roosevelt Hotel, located on Hollywood Blvd., across the street from the famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
